IntraLearn Enables Verizon Literacy University
to Offer Free Literacy Programs Online
Programs extend reach of ProLiteracy Worldwide and National Center
for Family Literacy
Northboro,
MA, November 11, 2003 -- IntraLearn Software Corporation, the
leading supplier of configurable e-Learning software applications
to the mid-market, announced that IntraLearn is the e-Learning infrastructure
supporting the award-winning Verizon Literacy University, an online
university created by ProLiteracy Worldwide and the National Center
for Family Literacy (NCFL) to support literacy programs and to recruit
and train literacy volunteers with free online courses.
Verizon Literacy University is using e-Learning and technology to
draw attention to the problem of low literacy skills in this country,
attract volunteers to literacy programs and provide a training resource
for both the general public and literacy program staffs. IntraLearns
flexible business model has allowed this to be done at no cost to
the end users. The Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles chose
VLU as the winner of Outstanding Achievement in Interactive/Online
Media because of its strong focus on the importance of literacy
resources to the field and community.
Building
a Web-based training resource for the literacy community is a challenge,
said Robert Wedgeworth, president of ProLiteracy Worldwide. IntraLearn
offers us an easy-to-use interface well-suited for the needs of
our diverse audience of tutors, learners and other stakeholders.
It requires no special programming knowledge to author a course
and it is easy for new online learners to navigate the system.
ProLiteracy plans to grow the number of courses available on Verizon
Literacy University from 15 by years-end to 27 by the end
of 2004.
Evan
Lenson, vice president of business development for IntraLearn Software
Corporation, said, IntraLearn is proud to be able to contribute
to this major initiative and to serve as the enabling technology
in the effort to recruit and train more people from literacy organizations
and the general public interested in learning about literacy and
volunteering.
