Northboro, MA, February 7, 2006 -- IntraLearn Software Corporation, the world’s leading supplier of Microsoft technology-based, turn-key e-Learning software applications, is today recognizing the The Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC) for its 8th year of using the IntraLearn SME as its e-Learning delivery platform.
OVEC is an educational service agency, a cooperative of 14 school districts, offering consolidated services to administrators, students, teachers, and families within its member districts, supporting everything from legal services, bid coordination, and externally-funded grants. Through iClasses.org, OVEC offers a complete school curriculum for grades 6-12, aligned with state core content requirements (and federal requirements as well). Students within the OVEC districts, as well as many others throughout Kentucky and other states, take advantage of their online courses.

Initially, OVEC needed to deliver consistent, academically sound course materials to a mobile population – done through a grant awarded to OVEC with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Migrant Education. Over time this need has grown to require a full-time dedicated content delivery system, assessment system, and enrollment system, serving middle- and high-school students from many different backgrounds and with widely divergent needs. iClasses.org courses are also used for summer curriculum, for remediation, for advanced learners, for extra credit, for juvenile justice students, etc., including a large number of home-school students In addition, they serve several Job Corps agencies that use the courses to assist their constituents in achieving a G.E.D.

“We were able to build lesson content search engines, automatic enrollment agents, content hyperlink checkers, and alternative course viewing methods that made it easy for our staff to maintain the course content and testing, as well as assessment materials ,” said OVEC Chief Technology Officer David Mehl. “Further, we found the pricing structure for a shrink-wrapped application like IntraLearn SME much more appealing than using someone else’s hosting service with closed access to software. IntraLearn allowed for a far wider spectrum of numbers of courses, numbers of instructors, and numbers of students.”
